01 What It Does

Turn an Explanation into a Storyboarded Comic

An educational-comic workflow with separate storyboarding, character references, page generation and PDF assembly.

Source-based workflowNot an execution benchmark

The Working Approach

Baoyu Comic converts knowledge content into a visual narrative with explicit panel layouts. Art style, emotional tone and page layout are separate decisions, allowing a tutorial, biography or concept story to use different pacing. The source supports stopping at the storyboard or prompt stage before committing to image generation.

For recurring characters, a character sheet is generated before the pages and used as a reference when the backend supports it. The output folder preserves analysis, storyboards, character definitions and per-page prompts alongside images and a merged PDF. This makes page-level revision possible without treating the comic as one opaque generation request.

Expected Deliverables

  • A panel-by-panel storyboard and character definitions
  • Generated comic pages with saved source prompts
  • An optional merged comic PDF

From Brief to Review

  1. 01
    Shape the Learning Story

Identify the audience, key explanation and narrative sequence. Decide what should be shown through action rather than dialogue alone.

  2. 02
    Approve Characters and Panels

Confirm art, tone, layout and whether outline or prompt review is wanted. Those later reviews are conditional; the initial settings confirmation is required. Establish a character reference when identity must persist across pages.

  3. 03
    Render and Revise Pages

Generate from saved prompts, inspect reading order and dialogue, and regenerate only the pages that need correction before merging.

02 When to Use It

When to Use It

An available image backend; Bun or an npx-based Bun runtime for the supplied PDF merge script.

A Good Fit

  • Concept ExplanationsUseful when a process or idea becomes clearer through characters, scenes and a sequence of discoveries.
  • Reviewable StoryboardingFits teams that want to approve the narrative before spending generation time on finished pages.

Limits to Check

  • Not Native Comic Layout EditingThe finished pages are generated images. A PDF package does not make speech bubbles and drawings independently editable.
  • Consistency Depends on ReferencesA character sheet helps preserve identity but does not guarantee it. Inspect faces, clothing and recurring props on every page.

Bring These Inputs

  • Reliable Source MaterialProvide the facts or lesson, distinguishing historical details from invented storytelling devices.
  • Audience and ToneSpecify reader knowledge and whether the comic should feel neutral, warm, dramatic or another supported direction.
  • Character and Page NeedsDescribe recurring characters, preferred reading format and approximate length.

03 Decisions That Matter

Decisions That Matter

  1. Narrative Before Rendering

A storyboard exposes missing explanation and pacing problems before they become expensive finished images.

  2. Page-Level Revision

Numbered prompts and regeneration options keep a correction local to the affected page.

04 Try a Focused Brief

Try a Focused Brief

The example brief below has not been tested. Check the skill’s setup before using it.

Review the Setup

Retain character, layout and style references, and load EXTEND.md preferences or complete first-time setup before content analysis. The image backend and PDF runtime are separate requirements from the Skill text.

Start With One Deliverable

Adapt the scope, source material and constraints in this brief before running the skill.

Example Brief
Use baoyu-comic to storyboard a four-page educational comic explaining version control to beginners. Use two recurring fictional characters and distinguish factual explanation from the story device. Start with panel descriptions and character definitions only. Keep dialogue short, show the branching concept visually and wait for approval before generating the character sheet and pages.

Inspect the Result

Check the actual output against these observable criteria.

  • The panel order teaches the intended concept without missing steps.
  • Recurring characters retain recognizable identity across pages.
  • Dialogue is readable and the PDF uses the approved page order.

06 Questions Before You Start

Questions Before You Start

Can I stop before image generation?

Yes. The source provides storyboard-only and prompts-only workflows.

Why generate a character sheet first?

It gives later pages a shared identity reference, reducing reliance on repeated verbal descriptions alone.

Can one page be replaced?

Yes. Update that page's prompt first, regenerate the selected page and rebuild the merged PDF.
