01 What It Does

Map Published Figma Components to Their Code

A Figma MCP workflow for discovering, reviewing and writing approved Code Connect mappings.

Source-based workflowNot an execution benchmark

The Working Approach

Figma Code Connect Components is a mapping workflow, not a screen generator. It discovers unmapped published components in a Figma selection, searches the local codebase and compares component structure and properties. A matching name is only a starting point: variant options, defaults and purpose must also align.

The source requires the proposed matches to be shown to the user before any mappings are created. Partial approval is supported, and ambiguous or missing components are reported rather than guessed. The output is a discoverable design-to-code connection; it does not automatically rewrite either side or prove that their rendered appearance is identical.

Expected Deliverables

  • A proposed list of Figma node-to-code component matches
  • Approved Code Connect mappings with source paths and framework labels
  • A summary separating connected, skipped and failed mappings

From Brief to Review

  1. 01
    Identify Published Components

Use a node-specific Figma link or supported desktop selection and discover which components remain unmapped.

  2. 02
    Compare Implementations

Search the repository and inspect actual exports, properties and defaults. Present alternatives when more than one component could fit.

  3. 03
    Connect the Approved Set

Submit only user-approved mappings, then report successful and failed items separately.

02 When to Use It

When to Use It

Connected Figma MCP, access to published components and the codebase, plus current Code Connect entitlement and edit permissions.

A Good Fit

  • Library HandoffUseful when designers and developers already maintain corresponding component libraries but the links between them are unclear.
  • Incremental Mapping CleanupFits a selection containing both previously mapped components and a few new items.

Limits to Check

  • Published Components RequiredThe reviewed workflow is for published components or component sets, not arbitrary rectangles or unshared draft components.
  • Access Is SeparateCheck that your Figma plan supports Code Connect and that you have edit permission and a working connection before creating mappings.

Bring These Inputs

  • Figma SelectionProvide a file link containing the target node ID, or a selected node through a supported desktop connection.
  • Code RepositoryMake the implementation files available so exports and props can be inspected.
  • Mapping ApprovalChoose all, some or none of the suggested matches before they are written.

03 Decisions That Matter

Decisions That Matter

  1. Property-Level Matching

Comparing variant and size interfaces reduces misleading links between components that merely share a name.

  2. Explicit Partial Success

A failed or skipped component remains visible in the handoff instead of disappearing behind an overall success message.

Review the Setup

Install the curated skill through your agent environment’s supported mechanism and connect Figma separately. These Beta materials are governed by the Figma Developer Terms, not MIT. Installation does not grant Code Connect access.

Start With One Deliverable

Adapt the scope, source material and constraints in this brief before running the skill.

Example Brief
Use figma-code-connect-components to inspect the published components in this Figma frame and find their implementations in our repository. Compare variant props and defaults, show the proposed source paths, and wait for my approval before creating mappings. If a component has two plausible matches, explain the difference rather than choosing silently.

Inspect the Result

Check the actual output against these observable criteria.

  • Every proposed source path points to the actual component export.
  • Only explicitly accepted mappings are created.
  • Unpublished, already mapped or permission-blocked items are reported accurately.

06 Questions Before You Start

Questions Before You Start

Does this generate application code?

No. It maps design components to existing implementations. Building code from a Figma frame is a separate workflow.

Can it connect unpublished components?

The reviewed source says the components must be published to a team library before Code Connect can map them.

Can I approve only one match?

Yes. The workflow explicitly supports accepting all, some or none of the proposed mappings.
