01 What it does

What the pptx-visual-assets Skill Does in Claude Code and Codex

In the Skill's Own Terms

This skill selects and places approved icons, images, SVGs, diagrams, and infographics in editable PPTX decks. It confirms local asset paths, usage rights, and alt text before placement, then adds each asset with a final inch bounding box, deliberate z-index, and content or layout_design classification.

Visual assets support a slide's message rather than replacing editable content. The skill preserves aspect ratio, ensures no asset covers readable text, and recreates essential labels and legends as native PowerPoint objects instead of locking them in images. When rights or suitable assets are unavailable, it omits the asset and reports the gap rather than adding placeholders.

How It Works

  1. 01
Select Asset Type When It Improves Comprehension

Choose icon, image, SVG, diagram, or infographic only when the visual meaningfully supports understanding of the slide content.

  2. 02
Confirm Path, Rights, and Alt Text

Before placing any asset, verify the local file path, source attribution, usage rights, and write concise alternative text for accessibility.

  3. 03
Add Asset with Bbox, z-index, and Classification

Place the asset using a final inch bounding box measurement, set a deliberate layering order, and mark it as content or layout_design.

  4. 04
Preserve Ratio and Check Text Coverage

Maintain the original aspect ratio and verify that no asset obscures readable text or traps essential information inside an image.

02 Find your fit

When to Use the pptx-visual-assets Skill

Use the pptx-visual-assets skill in Claude Code or Codex when the job is PPT and slide decks of this kind. Fit and limits below are taken from the skill's own file.

Good Fit

  • Placing approved icons, images, SVGs, diagrams, or infographics with confirmed usage rights and local paths

    What to Provide

    • Local asset pathThe file system location of the icon, image, SVG, diagram, or infographic to be placed.
    • Source and usage rightsAttribution details and licensing information confirming permission to use the asset.
    • Concise alt textBrief alternative text describing the visual asset for accessibility purposes.

    03 Inside the skill

Rules the pptx-visual-assets Skill Gives Claude Code and Codex

7 concrete instructions, defaults and limits the SKILL.md sets for the agent — the part of the file that changes the result.

    1. Support Messages, Never Replace Editable Content

Visual assets must support a slide's message and never flatten or substitute for content that should remain editable.

    2. Use Simple Icons with Text Labels

Icons must be simple and legible, and they must appear alongside text labels rather than standing alone.

    3. Place Captions Beside Images, Not Over Them

Image captions must be positioned next to the image rather than overlaid on top of the visual.

    4. Use Only Clean Vector SVGs

SVG sources must be true clean vectors; never wrap a raster image in SVG format and present it as editable.

    5. Recreate Essential Elements as Native Objects

Labels, legends, values, and process steps must be recreated using native PowerPoint objects rather than locked in images.

    6. Omit Assets When Rights Are Unavailable

If usage rights, provenance, or a suitable asset cannot be confirmed, omit the asset entirely and report the gap instead of adding a placeholder.

    7. Record Source Details in Manifest, Never Request Secrets

Provider and source information must be logged in the source manifest, and the skill must never request secret credentials in chat.

    04 Put it to work

Install pptx-visual-assets in Claude Code or Codex

One npx skills add command, then a first task in your agent and a checklist for the result.

Give the Skill a First PPT and Slide Decks Task

Written in the skill's own terms; replace the bracketed parts with your material.

    Starter prompt
Add approved icons for each of the four key benefits listed on slide 5, confirm usage rights from [company asset library], place each icon at 0.6 inch height to the left of its corresponding text label with proper z-index so text remains in front, and recreate any supporting callout numbers as native PowerPoint text objects rather than embedding them in the icon graphics.

    Check the First Result

What the SKILL.md itself says a correct result looks like:

    • Verify that aspect ratio is preserved for all placed assets

In OpenDesign import pptx-visual-assets from its SKILL.md link: Plugins → Add → Skill → Import from link, then pick it in the top bar.
