01 What It Does

Generate Visual Assets Through a Chosen Image API

A compact two-provider image-generation workflow with credential routing, response decoding and project-file saving.

Source-based workflowNot an execution benchmark

The Working Approach

Generate Image handles a narrow but useful job: choose an available image provider, submit the brief and save the returned image where the project can use it. The reviewed version documents OpenAI and Google Gemini request formats, including base64 image responses and provider error cases. It is not a full art-direction or brand-system workflow.

Its provider choice is based on configured credentials, with user preference resolving a choice when necessary. That is an operational convenience, not evidence that one model will suit every visual task. Supply the required composition, aspect ratio and asset purpose explicitly, then inspect the saved result before treating it as production-ready. API model availability and billing remain provider-controlled.

Expected Deliverables

  • A generated image saved in a project asset directory
  • A known local output path for subsequent design work
  • A clear provider-error report if no usable image is returned

From Brief to Review

  1. 01
    Choose the Provider

Check which supported provider has been configured without exposing the secret value. Confirm any provider preference and authorized spending before generation.

  2. 02
    Describe the Asset

Give the subject, composition, dimensions and intended placement. For a game texture, specify tiling or seamless behavior rather than relying on the filename.

  3. 03
    Save and Inspect

Decode the image response or save the returned image file, then inspect its contents and report the actual path.

02 When to Use It

When to Use It

A supported provider API key and network access; model availability and usage charges must be checked separately.

A Good Fit

  • Single Project AssetsUseful for creating a texture, icon concept, illustration or mockup when the provider and intended output are already clear.
  • Explicit Provider ChoiceFits environments where an agent should use an existing OpenAI or Gemini credential rather than inventing a different service.

Limits to Check

  • Credentials and BillingThe Skill requires a key for the chosen provider. Its presence does not imply free usage, and model access can vary by account.
  • No Editing Pipeline PromisedThe reviewed request examples focus on generation. Do not assume reference-image editing, vector output or brand consistency controls are included.

Bring These Inputs

  • Visual BriefDescribe the subject, treatment and the role the image will play in the interface or document.
  • Output RequirementsSpecify an asset directory, filename, size and any transparency or tiling needs for the agent to evaluate.
  • Provider ConfigurationProvide a configured supported provider through the environment, not a secret pasted into public files.

03 Decisions That Matter

Decisions That Matter

  1. Saved Output Is the Deliverable

The workflow ends with a file path rather than a prompt alone, making the result available to the surrounding project.

  2. Response Handling Is Explicit

The source distinguishes returned image data from text or safety errors, so an API response is not automatically mistaken for successful image generation.

Start With One Deliverable

Adapt the scope, source material and constraints in this brief before running the skill.

Example Brief
Use generate-image to make one square, seamless paper-fiber texture for a design prototype. Use my already configured provider, confirm that the requested model is available, and save the result under assets/textures/paper.png. Keep contrast subtle and avoid text or logos. Report a blocked request rather than silently switching providers or retrying paid calls.

Inspect the Result

Check the actual output against these observable criteria.

  • A real image file exists at the reported output path.
  • Its composition and dimensions match the asset brief.
  • Provider errors or safety blocks are not reported as a successful generation.

06 Questions Before You Start

Questions Before You Start

Does installing the Skill include image credits?

No. Generation is performed through the user's chosen provider and account; the Skill itself is an instruction workflow.

Can it choose between OpenAI and Gemini?

The reviewed version routes using configured keys and can ask for a preference when both are available. Verify current model access before making a request.

Will it produce an editable vector icon?

The source describes image API outputs, not editable vector construction. A raster icon concept is different from an SVG with editable paths.
