Frequently asked questions

Answers about design systems, plugins, cross-tool delivery and privacy, with links to the relevant task guides.

Can I create and reuse my own design system?

Open Design systems in the Home sidebar to create one. Import from GitHub can bring in an existing system; publish it in OpenDesign for new team projects. Pushing a design system back to GitHub is not currently built in.

Regeneration can derive a new palette from brand colors and overwrite manual edits. Back up final token or palette files before regenerating, then compare the result. Regeneration is not necessarily a change to just one field.

Follow Design systems for source material, publishing, and applying a system.

How do I import plugins and invoke a skill?

Open Plugins on Home. In the current Add dialog, select Plugin or Skill, then import a link or upload a local folder. Read the destination notice: this flow uploads to the team space. See Plugins and Skills for exact steps and version differences.

Still specify your framework, component constraints and acceptance criteria. Installing a capability does not guarantee every generated result meets each rule.

Can I create infographics, reports or browser games?

Creation categories do not constrain the output type. For infographic-like work, data-report can turn CSV, Excel or JSON into a visual report page; social-card and poster workflows offer other starting points. For a simple browser game, describe its rules, interactions and required output directly.

Use the practical checks in the prototype guide to test controls, state and mobile layout. A static screenshot cannot establish that a game or interactive report works.

Can I export directly to Figma?

Direct Figma export is not currently supported. Use a project’s Hand off action to continue development, or sharing and collaboration to collect feedback. Neither converts the project into a native Figma file.

Is there a dark theme for the app?

Current community support guidance says the app does not yet offer dark mode. Check Settings in your installed version. A dark design inside a generated project is separate from the app’s own appearance.

How do local projects and Cloud requests handle data?

Local-first does not mean every workflow retains no data. Local project files and BYOK keys stay on your device and requests go to the configured provider. Cloud processes information needed for accounts, routing, usage and billing. Hosted requests also reach upstream providers, whose own policies apply.

OpenDesign does not intentionally train its own models on Cloud request content. Consult the privacy policy for the data types and handling rules. Do not interpret ZDR as a promise that no account data, logs or upstream records exist.

Use Privacy settings to understand metrics, content sharing, and the scope of Delete my data.
